छिगु कमेन्ट् थन क्वसँ च्वयादिसँ।

Representatives of The Newah family handed over a petition addressed to the Government of Nepal and CA members of all parties to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the first President of Nepal to the visiting NCP (Maoist) senior leader and newly elected CA member Hon. C. P. Gajurel at a welcome and interaction programme attended by a large gathering of Nepalese of diverse nationalities led by Nepal Ambassador H. E. Dr. Ganesh Yonjan Tamang. The programme was organized by Samyukta Lokatantrik Ganatantrik Manch Japan in Tokyo’s Ebisu town hall. Copies of the petition were also handed over to the Ambassador and Krishna KC, the president of the Manch, while a good majority of the attended Nepalese put the signature in support of the petition to elect Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as President of Nepal.

Addressing the gathering and commenting on the questions put forward by several speakers, Hon. Gajurel assured that Nepal will neither follow North Korea nor any other dictatorial governing system. He said “we will respect every right of Nepalese under our government. Investments from both foreigners and Nepalese Diaspora are welcome and will be equally protected.”

Commenting on the petition to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the president of Nepal, Senior leader Gajurel said Padma Ratna Tuladhar was the first to fight for the right of multi-party system in that Rastriya Panchayat Assembly. He rightly deserves to become the 1st President of Nepal. While there are some other qualified people, “we have also considered Ram Raja Prasad Singh, a Madeshi leader, because he was the first to blast bombs around the Singh Durbar in support of Republican Nepal and we have learned how to make bomb from him” said the orator leader amusing the audience.

Speaking at the same interaction programme, Nepal Ambassador to Japan, H. E. Dr. Ganesh Yonjan Tamang stressed the need of real change in Nepal’s governance. Referring to the need of building Nepal’s own embassy building in Tokyo, which he said will reduce a great amount of expenses now being incurred to pay rent for present embassy of two story building located in not-so-easy-accessible location in Tokyo but paying a 750,000 yen a month. “Nepalese will welcome such change very warmly” said the mild spoken ambassador.

The Programme was also addressed by several speakers such as Dr. Ram Giri of Peace and Democracy Nepal Forum Japan, Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, President of Nepali Janasamparka Samiti, NCP (UML) Secretary Surya Pathak, NRN Japan President Bhavan Bhatta while Newah International Forum Japan’s General Secretary Dr. Dinesh Manandhar and Former General Secretary Suwarn Vajracharya read out the petition to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the first President of Nepal and handed over to the distinguished guests. The programme successfully ended with a warm note of thanks by President Krishna KC and a video presentation of Peoples’ War by John Chantyal.

The Petition was signed in support of appointing Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the first President of Nepal by the following worthy friends and handed over to the visiting NCP Maoist leader at the interaction programme on the 15th June 2008 in Tokyo.

The petition reads:

A Petition to Appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the 1st President of Nepal!

Outline of the Petition
This petition draws the genuine attention of those who concerned including the Government of Nepal, all political parties and CA members of Nepal to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar, as the 1st President of Nepal as we believe only a non-politically aligned civil society leader can guide good governance to write an impartial constitution acceptable to all Nepalese.

The Petition
Nepal is not a country of one group or one party. It is a country of Nepalese made up of diverse nationalities, having their own distinguished languages and religions. Panchayat system of royal regime of Shah dynasty imposed “one country, one nation, one language and one religion” of a particular group on all nationalities to the extent millions of indigenous people never got the chance of learning through their own mother-tongue. Except very few, all government jobs went to only a particular cast people. It was this injustice, unequal, unfair treatment that civil leaders like Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar rose against. He has dedicated all his life for the liberation of Nepalese people from the autocratic rule of Shah dynasty and its henchmen-filled-Panchayeti governments, which ruled Nepal with iron hand until the 2nd people’s power defeated the ex-king Gyanendra in April 2006.

Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar started fighting for people’s freedom since 1970s. He went to jail so many times for demanding multi-party political system for all, he went to jail for asking legitimate right to be educated in mother tongues for all diverse nationalities of Nepal.

He was instrumental in facilitating peace talks with the Maoists and ending the decade-long bloody conflict. He intervened to bring a peaceful settlement parleying between the Maoists in the jungles and the government leaders leaning in the couches of comfort. Therefore, he and his team of civil society leaders helped brought the present partial peace in Nepal.

We believe that an impartial leader should guide the new CA members to write an impartial and practical constitution to guide good governance for the people to enjoy the peace and prosperity. We are very grateful to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, his team, UML leadership, Maoist leadership to have agreed to choose ballet against bullet. But we are sure all these genuine leaders are quite aware what role Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar and his civil society team played. If not for the trouble taken by Dr. Tuladhar and his fellow civil society leaders, none of us can imagined what would have happened to us today.

Our Appeal
Therefore, we appeal the NCP/Maoist, NC, UML leadership to nominate Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar to be the 1st President of this country and the worthy members of Constituent Assembly to support to his appointment as the 1st President of Nepal, to guide good governance of Nepal under his impartial and clean statesmanship.

We also appeal to the Respected, Governments of India, China, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka in South Asia and all friendly government and people of the world through the Secretary General of the United Nations to convince the parties in Nepal to appoint this genuine leader to seek peace and prosperity for Nepal because he is the best leader to guide an impartial constitution for New Nepal.

We also request the mass media, online news portals to give fair and impartial publicity to this genuine appeal for the benefit of all Nepalese people.

Needless to remind our fellow Nepalese civil society members, individuals and associations to support this appeal to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar as the 1st President of Nepal, yet appreciate whatever small you can do to reach this appeal to the three and other parties of CA members and help our appeal to succeed. You are all assured our fullest support in return when in need. Friends in need are friends indeed!

Hence this is the time to appoint Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar the 1st President of Nepal!

Dr. Ganesh Yonjan Tamang said that Buddha’s Teachings on Inclusiveness, tolernace and harmony are ideals for a New Nepal. His Teachings have contributed to brotherhood and tolerance in the contemporary world.

The assembly of Buddhist monks, devotees and friends of Buddhism from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Japan prayed for world peace by paying homage to Lord Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. The venerable monks chanted sutras for good health, happiness and longevity of all mankind while the participants offered Buddhist monks and nuns with food and gifts.
