“Karma he jivan khah- Work is life” was his motto, Karma Lal Maharjan a well known industrialist of Kathmandu passed away on Friday, the Nepal Samvat 1129 Chaula Ga (10th April) in Kathmandu. He was 73, when he left his wife, three sons and their spouses, four daughters and their spouses, 12 grand children, two brothers, three sisters, many more nephews, nieces and grand children. His son Dr. Keshav Lal Maharjan, a professor at Hiroshima University tells us that “there are 108 of us, the siblings of his parents, still living as an extended family.” His last rites were performed by Vajrayana Buddhist Gurujus with the funeral procession led by Newah ritual musical instrumental band and joined by his relatives, guthiyars, friends and community people followed by his family members, was more than one kilometer long.

Late Karma shahu was the founder of several business and industrial entities and has provided jobs to thousands in his life time. He was a very hardworking, pious and loving man, full of compassion and truthfulness. Anyone, who comes in contact with him, would be influenced by his admirable nature. He is known to have worked harder from his childhood from farming to business and industries. In the later part of his life, he had spent days in social services and works of religious merits and contributed in what ever way he could for the cause of society and the people around him. In his honour, Theravada Bhikkhus, Vajrayana gurujus, and Lama priests offered prayers and perform traditional rituals to wish him a suffering less supreme Nirvana or to attain to Shukhavati Bhuvana while many including Namasangiti, Gyanamala Bhajan Khalah volunteered to read hymns and prayers offering condolences for the past seven days.

The Newah extends our deepest condolences to bereaved family of Karma Lal Maharjan including his son Professor Keshav Maharjan, a good friend of Newah community in Japan and advisor to Nepal Federation of Indigenous Community Japan.

Tomorrow is the 1st day of Vaisakh of the Vikram Era year 2066. It is indeed a happy New Year day for those who celebrate it in India and Nepal and elsewhere. We Nepalese have been celebrating it as our New Year day since long. But it is no more a secret that we Nepalese have our own Nepal Era while Indian Bikram Era was tactfully introduced by Rana regime at the expense of Nepal Era and Nepal Era has already been reinstated as Nepal’s National calendar since 1stday of Kachhala month of Nepal Era 1129 (29 October 2008). The Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” himself declared the Government’s decision publicly on the very first day of the Nepal Era New year’s day. There are and will be opponents to this decision as there are always opponents for worthy decisions in our pathetic native land Nepal, when intruders have bigger hands on it. It is time for the Informed Nepalese to choose the correct New Year to celebrate and send out greetings!

नेपाल मण्डलया आदिवासीत झी नेवाःत, झीसँ हे खःमखुगु मसीकल धाःसा सुना सीके सयेके याई? पिनेँ आक्रमणयाःवपिँ खय् बर्मू क्षेत्रितयेसँ झीगु देस न इमिसँ भिन्की, न झीतःहे भिन्के बी इमिसँ। “खिचाँ थःम्हँनं सु नइमखु, सु नइम्ह सायातनँ खालि उजक उया सु नकी मखु” धायेगु सिबे चर्कोका थ्व बर्मु क्षेत्रित। उकेँ इमिगु पाखेँ झीगु देः भिन्का कायेगु आसाला “मरुभुमी लः माःवनीम्ह चला” सिबे छुँहे पाइमखु। गुलि ब्वाँय् वनेगु मदुगु लः मामाँ। चायेके माल झीसँ मरुभुमी ल मदुथेँ, थ्व बर्मु खय् तयेके मानवता हे मदु धका। ईमिके मानवता दूगुखःसाला, आदिवासी नेवाः जनतायता प्राथमिकता बी माःगु खःनि। अथे जूसा जकँ सिंगापुरेथेँ झीगु देय् नँ विकास जुयावइ। १५% जक दूगु सिंगापुरया आदिवासी मले जातियात, ७७%या चिनियातेसँ न्ह्यागुलिनं प्राथमिकता बियातःगु दु। मले जातिया ब्बनामिपिन्तः प्राथमिक स्कुलँनिसेँ विश्व विद्यालय तक्क स्कोलरशिप बियातःगु दु। मले संस्कृतिया उत्थान संरक्षण यायेत विशेष गुथि दयेका तःगु दु। ग्व झीगु संस्कृतिया उत्थान। थउँनेया इन्द्रजात्राँ सीदत मखुला, झीगु संस्कृतियात गुलि अपमान याना वया च्वन थ्व खय् बर्मू क्षेत्रितय् नेपाल सरकारँ। न शाह शासकत, न राणात, न प्रजातन्त्रवादी धागु पार्टिया सरकारँ झीत: वास्ता यात।

A heartfelt personal gratitude, we would like to express from the bottom of our heart to our pasapin for extending your condolences of kind words through The Newah blog, local and international calls, emails and even advertisements on newspapers in honour of our beloved mother, the Reverend Satyaparami at her untimely demise on 1129 Chilla 28 (Pahanchahre) early wedday [25th March 2009]. We do not know which words to choose to express our unlimited gratitude towards your kind words. But earnestly hope that a great word of “Subhay” will express all we weren’t able to express at this time of lost of a worthy mother of ours.

Basantapur, Yen (Kathmandu) - A Newah leader warned that if the New Constitution deprives Newah Autonomy, it will be burnt out in the Tinkhya (Tundikhel) Ground. So said the Newah Dey Daboo (Newah National Forum) patron, and former parliamentarian Malla K. In honour of the late Reverend Mother Satyaparami Gurumahn, a memorial service was organized yesterday noon in Gana Mahavihar, Kathmandu, by Dharma Vijaya Foundation Kathmandu amidst a gathering of venerable Buddhist monks, nuns, friends and relatives led by Dharma Vijaya Foundation President Venerable Sobhita Thera, Former Health & Labour Minister Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Former Nepal Ambassador for Japan Prof. Dr. Bishnu Hari Nepal and NESOCA Executive Secretary Mr. Maheswor Shrestha.

Earlier, a day long Buddhist chanting was offered by Buddhist clergy of elder monks and nuns representing several Buddhist temples of Kathmandu valley. The Bhikkhus and nuns were offered dana (alms) and daily needs including robes in memory of the late Gurumahn while the participants were treated with breakfast and lunch by her family.
