Yen (Kathmandu), Nepal Mandala - Sunita, we call her though she has two family names Rajbhandari and Shrestha. Guess how she got them. But most probably many of you will be more inquisitive to know who she is. You should miss her only if you have missed many Nepal Bhasa films including some Khas films. Not to worry, she is back in Nepal to attend to several films she is involved in acting, directing and even producing. She will be here just for three months. So make sure you will not miss her this time either on film or in person, if you can catch her during her stay here, Kathmandu, the great city of Newah culture & tradition, many envy of its architecture and hence subjected to several invasions by outsiders. Nepal Mandala Area to be closed on Jun 1 – Solidarity Demonstration on May 30

Yen (Kathmandu), Nepal Mandala - The Newah Autonomy Struggle Committee calls all Newah brothers and sisters to support its proposed Bandh (the General Strike) on June 1st in the Nepal Mandala area of Newah Autonomy (Dhading, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Kabhre, Sindhu, Nuwakot, Makawanpur, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts). The Committee also requests all to join in the solidarity demonstration on May 30, Saturday 3:00 pm at Basantapur Durbar Squire open ground in Kathmandu to make the Bandh on Jun 1st a grand success in order to pressurize the Government of Nepal and the Constituent Assembly members to assure the indigenous right to rule there own native land, the Nepal Mandala area and to demand the government withdraw the ill-intended plan of further expansion of Kathmandu area. In a proposed plan, the Government of Nepal is going to build outer Ringroad combining present three main cities of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur giving Government authority to comfisicate lands inside the Nepal Mandala area gravely affecting the indigenous Newah land owners in the area.

The Newah reminds all communities of Nepal to reciprocate the support the Newah community has extended in the past to win back the lost freedom for all Nepalese and now it is time for all Nepalese to support the Bandh on June 1st in the Nepal Mandala area called by the Newah Indigenous Community of the area. NEW UPDATE (May 25, 2009/N. S. 1129 Tachhala 1)

Yen (Kathmandu), Nepal Mandala - Nepal’s Constituent Assembly (Special Parliament) unanimously elected CPN (UML) Senior Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the new Prime Minister of the country this afternoon. Except CPN (Maoist) and Nepali Janata Dal, 21 parties including the Nepal National Party (नेपाः राष्ट्रीय पार्टि) backed Nepal’s candidacy for the 3rd Communist premier in Nepal’s history after the restoration of Multi-party democracy in 1990.

Man of the Choice
Defeated from both constituents (Kathmandu 2 and his home town Rautahat 6) at the Constituent Assembly (CA) election held on April 10, 2008, Nepal resigned from the General Secretary of the CPN (UML), which he had held for the past 16 years. Withdrawn also from UML chairmanship contest in its last Convention, he was appointed Senior Leader of the party by the new CC led by Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal.

However, Nepal proved that he was the man of choice to become the new Prime Minister. He was nominated CA member on a voluntarily vacated seat by Sushil Chandra Amatya, a CA member nominated by the cabinet on the UML quota of five members (Pasang Sherpa, Sushil Chandra Amatya, Bhagawat Chaudhari, Mahesh Chaudhari, Shila Katil). Amatya, President of CoNep, a longtime trade union activist aligned to CPN (UML) and a member in the National Monitoring Committee - formed in May 2006 to implement the 12 point understanding reached between the SPA and the CPN (Maoist) on 26 May 2006 that led to peace process in Nepal - resigned, some reports says at his own will while other reports say at the decision of UML’s CC.

Whatever the truth may be, Amatya’s voluntary resignation from his CA seat paved the way for much-awaited position – Head of Constitution Drafting Committee – to be filled by an able statesman, Comrade Nepal, who made a remarkable contribution in forging alliance with the then rebel Maoists and agitating Seven Party Alliance (SPA) for ending a decade long conflict in a logical way. Thus, Madhav Kumar Nepal was appointed as the Chairman of Constitution Draft Committee and now the new prime minister of Nepal.

Salute to Amatya - Congratulations to Nepal
While paying a respectful salute to Sushil Chandra Amatya for his great abnegation, The Newah whole heartedly congratulates Nepal’s new PM Nepal all the best wishes for a very successful tenure of his office of the Prime Minister of Nepal (though short-time-left as the CA is mandated for only a 2 year term, of which former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal has already run the government for 9 months) to write the Constitution for a new Nepal, a constitution for the good of all communities of the country to build a Fair Nepal, leading to a prosperous and peaceful Nepal.

A Good Job to be done
The Newah also cautions the new PM to be vigilant not to get attracted to petty interest of consolidating the party power at the expense of other supporters, including the Newah community [belonging to several political parties including Nepal National Party and CPN (UML) itself] that support him, but to engage in concentrating the sole job he is appointed for and during a specific term of office - to write the new Constitution, nothing else! A good job - including the gratitude to whom he owe, not something this mild-spoken leader needs to be reminded - done during his 11 month-left-term should bring him and his party (including his allies) back in power into a real term of office no sooner the new constitution is written. - Good luck, R.H. The Newah Residents Abroad (NRA) are meeting en masse in the US and UK this month. In the US, Newah Orgnaisation of America (NOA) is holding its 8th Annual Convention and General Meeting in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (Potomac Community Center11315 Falls Road, Potomac, MD 20854) on Sunday the 24th and inviting all of you to its traditional gathering with NOA members, friends, families and supporters. Meanwhile, the Pasapucha in the UK has announced of its organizing the First Brihat Newah gathering in UK on 31 May. A communiqué floated on emails says that the gathering en masse is expected to be participated by around thousand Newah from different towns and counties around the kingdom. A 26 member main organising committee has been formed to organise the gathering. In two messages sent to Pasapucha in the UK by two leading Newah leaders in Kathmandu, NESOCA President Artha Tuladhar and Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala, Yala President Suresh Pradhan have wished best wishes to the gathering while Artha Tuladhar’s message particularly wished the gathering in the UK will lead to intiate an international gathering sooner.

The Newah has learnt that NOA, NESOCA-NIFJ had proposed an international gathering of Newah residents abroad in the past but yet to materialize such a gathering. In another email message, a copy of which received at The Newah, Suwarn Vajracharya has indicated that an international gathering of Newah resident abroad is still a proposal alive, that we need to adopt sooner leading to form a World Fellowship of the Newah linking our commun ity at home and abroad. Although the Maoist poster speaks the truth of Nepali politics, Nepal Mandala residents have not forgotten the insult the Maoist Supremo made at his last press conference by speaking Khas Nepali, English and even Hindi but not a word in Nepal Bhasa, the langugae of the land, in the land of Newah nation.　Related news in Nepal Bhasa.

As reported in national and international media including online news portals, the followers and admirers of Lord Buddha, the finder of Buddhism, who preached the path of peace to the world’s humanity, celebrate the holyday of His Birthday, His Enlightenment and His attainment to Parinibbana, last Satday the world over. His followers admirers that included monks, nuns and devotees or dignitaries from kings, presidents, intellectuals to students of young age observed the day at various temples and public halls in most of Asia and many in Europe, Americas and Australian continents. In His native land, Nepal, people celebrated the day countrywide including the Holy Shrine Sacred garden at Lumbini, Bodhanath and Swoyambhu Grand Stupa temple. However, President Ram Baran Yadav and caretaker Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had to cancel their scheduled visits to the mass commemoration at the Anandakuti Vihara, Swoyambhu, Kathmandu and the opening of the Buddha’s relics procession organized once in four years, due to political stalemate in the country.

Its pity that both the statesmen had to miss the chance of paying tribute to the world respected Master, who taught the path of non-violence and peace, a dire need for present Nepal to follow. - The Newah

It was thanks to a Japanese Buddhist monk, Buddhism was revived in Nepal. The Venerable Kawaguchi, who visited Nepal during the Rana regime and at his request, the then hereditary prime minister, Chandra Samser Rana banned the animal sacrifice to the image of Mahamaya, the mother of Lord Buddha, in the present sacred park of Lumbini in the southern part of Nepal. Nepal Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ganesh Yonjan said so while opening the Buddha’s Birthday celebrations organised by Newah International Forum Japan (NIFJ) with Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Japan, in Tokyo’s Zentoin Buddhist Vihara.

Buddhist monks led by Venerable Dhammissara Nayaka Thera of Sri Lanka Buddhist Center, while Venerable Kondannya from Nepal joined the celebration leading a Nepalese delegation. A large gathering of both Nepalese resident in Japan and Japanese friends led by Japan Nepal Society president former ambassador to Nepal Chu-ichi Ito attended the day-long celebrations held in commemorating the Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment and his passing away to parinirvana on the full-moon-day of the month of Veisakha (April-May). Veisakha full-moon-day, the day that Buddha’s Birthday, the day of His Enlightenment and the day of His Parinibbana fall on the 9th May this year. As the day is considered to be the most significant day in the life Lord Buddha, the son of Nepal and the finder of world peace, the Buddhists of the world celebrate the day with homage, sermon, alms giving and meditation programmes in temples world wide including the Lumbini Sacred Garden in Nepal.
