Sunita is back home – Her Back Story from Actress to Producer
The First Woman Director in the Nepal Bhasa Film Industry
Yen (Kathmandu), Nepal Mandala - Sunita, we call her though she has two family names Rajbhandari and Shrestha. Guess how she got them. But most probably many of you will be more inquisitive to know who she is. You should miss her only if you have missed many Nepal Bhasa films including some Khas films. Not to worry, she is back in Nepal to attend to several films she is involved in acting, directing and even producing. She will be here just for three months. So make sure you will not miss her this time either on film or in person, if you can catch her during her stay here, Kathmandu, the great city of Newah culture & tradition, many envy of its architecture and hence subjected to several invasions by outsiders. Here is her back story in Nepal Bhasa.
अभिनयँ – निर्माताय् थ्यँम्ह सुनिताया बाय्क स्टोरि
नेपाल संवत ११२९ तछला ६ शुक्रवाः (सिथिनखः)
येँ, नेपाल मण्डल - उकुन्हु तिनि सुनिताया ‘गथांमुगः’ लिसे मतिना जूगु बुखँ झीसँ न्यने धुन। अथे मतिना जुया “छुं इलंनिसें अमेरिकाया भर्जिनिया स्टेटय् च्वना च्वँम्ह सुनिता नेपाः लिहाँ वयाच्वंगु दु”। व बुखँला न्यनहे धुन जुइ झी नेवाः पासापिसँ। अथेसाँ आपासिनँ न्यनेमनँगु वया बाय्क् स्टोरि थथे खः।
ने सं १११० (सन् १९९०) दँय् बद्रि अधिकारिया निर्देशनय् नेपाल टीवीँ प्रसारण यागु “कोरस्” खस् नेपाली टेली फिल्म्य् मचा कलाकार जुया सुरु जूगु सुनिताया प्याखँलिसेया सम्बन्ध, थौँ छम्ह नाँजाम्ह प्याखँम्वः जक मखुसे प्याखँया निर्माताकथँहे म्हसीके दय् धुंकल। अज, नेपाल भासया सँकिपा ख्यलय् दकले न्हापाँम्हँ मिसा निर्देसीका। सुनिताँ दयेकूगु फिल्मत दथुई “समालोचना, दकले बाँलागु प्याखँ” या एवार्ड् “भिन्तुना” धैगु नेपाल भासया सांस्कृतिक जीवनया न्हायेकँ खः। लिटिल् मिस् काठमाण्डु, मिस् टीन् काठमाण्डु, भोलिको नेपाल (अन्तर विद्यालय नृत्य प्रतियोगिता)ज्या:झ्व लय् निर्णायिका जुइधुंकुम्ह: सुनिताँ “आ इ फा” (Indigenous Film Archive) धागु संस्था या ग्वसालय् संकिपा सम्बन्धि ट्रेनिङ् कया, “१२ देय्ज” नाँया चिकिचा हाकःगु सँकिपा क्यने ज्या: जुइ धुंकूगु दु।
थुज्वःगु कौसल्यताँजाम्ह सुनिताया विशेषता खः, थःगु माँभास प्रति गबलेँ मफुइगु माया। झी नेवाःत थी थी कलाकार, टेक्नोलोजि, इन्जिनियरिङ, डिजाइनिङ इत्यादी कौसल्यताँ जासाँ, थःगु भास धाःसा “छुयायेगु मचाबले स्येना मतः, नेवा: भाय् मसः” थःत थःगु जातियात हेला जुइगुकथँ हे नवाय् मछा थाय्, सुनितायागु नेपाल भास प्रति मतिना जक मखुसे, मदयेक मगागु, ज्ञान धात्थें हे च्वछाय् बहःजू। सुनिताला, “झी न्ह्यज्याय् नु” धैगु नेपाल भास न्वचु धेँधेँ बल्ला कासाय् लियांल्यु या सिरपा त्याकेत नं ताः लागु दु । व जक मखु भर्जिनियाय् च्वँपिँ नेवाः मस्तय् नेपाल भास मास्टरनीनँ।

Its nice to see that a Newar woman is directing a movie. But I can not support the Newar films only because i’m also Newar. it has to be a good movie with good acting and good script. if the film maker is a good film director,then it is just perfect. I’ve seen some newar films and every time i was disappointed. Technically those movis has very poor quality. i think Sunita ju should continue her trainning in this field in USA if she lives there. it will be a good oportunity for her. All the best for her. I’ll definetely see her movie some day.

I am pleased to hear that Sunita Have such a diversified qualities playing actress to producer. On behalf of NOA, I would like to congratulate Sunita on her success to get a full blown directing position. This not only makes us proud but also the newah communities in Nepal as well as abroad. Being a Newah woman, it’s not an easy position achieve in Nepal. Way to go Sunita……..
